2.7 Understand the difference between mains electricity being alternating current (a.c.) and direct current (d.c.) being supplied

Direct current:

Flows in one direction only (+ to -)
Supplied by cells and batteries
On an oscilloscope, shows a straight line

Alternating current:

Varies between + and -
Changes direction very quickly
Mains electricity is AC
On an oscilloscope, shows a wiggly line

AC DC electricity is quite common in the Electricity Retailers Singapore business
